History
Oakhill Tigers Football Club was formed in 1997 by Dave Marett. Dave wanted to have control over the first years of his own son’s football experience and encourage a coaching style and team spirit that was based on learning, discipline and enjoyment.
This philosophy has grown over the years and remains the cornerstone and platform on which all the Tiger Teams are based.
We made our home at the Walker Ground, Southgate, and have remained there ever since.
Oakhill Tigers provides competitive football for boys of mixed ability. Children develop their skill at different ages and this Club has many examples of players who were considered ‘less able’ going on to become key players within their squad.
The early years of a footballer’s life are crucial. This is the time that shapes the player’s future. Enjoyment is the key word. Confidence and team spirit develops. RESULTS: yes it’s great to win, but is it the most important aspect in those early years? Oakhill Tigers say ‘No, not at all costs’
Since those first years, Oakhill Tigers has grown from a single team to a Club that provides football to all the age groups and as recent as 2008, formed an ‘Old boys’ team, which now plays on a Saturday. This team comprises of players from the original Tigers team of 97.
Over the past 12 years we have had boys taken on by professional teams and still have 2 young boys at Tottenham and Watford Football Club Academies. We say this is confirmation that if you are good enough you will be found, wherever you play and whatever team you play for.
The Club has been built up over the years, by people volunteering their time to manage the boys, organise events, promote sponsorship and run the Club, for the benefit of children from all walks of life and provide them with the opportunity to play football in a friendly, enjoyable and competitive environment.
The history of any club is important. The foundations have been set. Our ethos is clear. Now for the future!
